Cod Fishing in New England

A very small cod caught while fishing off the New England coast early this spring:

The NOAA has cut its cod catch quota for the Gulf of Maine by 22%to 6,700 tons for the 2012 season. While aiming to protect currently endangered cod stocks, this ruling has gained public attention due to its potential impact on local cod fisherman.
Sadly, I did not have the best luck cod fishing this year. I did not catch a single keeper cod last season, despite several trips out to Stellwagen Bank in less than ideal weather. The only one I got was few inches short of the 24 inch minimum. He was held up briefly for a photo op, and then quickly and safely returned to water. Better luck this upcoming season when (See the Mass division of fisheries link on the right for catch limits and minimum sizes and observance of Cod conservation areas which are closed to fishing).Have you caught any cod in the New England area?  Please share your fishing story in the comment section.
