So I joked that the 30% hike in commuter boat fares was just used to repaint and rename the boats. It turns out that the recent renaming of the fleet was the result in a change in ownership and an expiration of a contract. But several of the commuter ferries have been renamed. This process seemed to have taken place at some point in July.
The old Laura is now the Ruth E. Hughes, the old Nora Vittoria is now the Asteria, and best of all- the old James J. Doherty is now the Recency. As long as the the boat is on time and the beer is cold, you won’t hear me complaining.
