Boston.com has a nice article about the Spiny Dogfish, eternal pest of East Coast fishing, on its site yesterday. See the link here. I agree with the premise that Dogfish should be excluded from new shark regulations as there are so many of them, and they are such a nuisance to fishermen. Real sharks need to be protected- but not these things. This ugly little shark-like creature is an abundant and invasive species which crowds out more useful fish in the area.
Dogfish are very ugly, but I am a big fan of catching dogfish and eating them- they actually taste pretty good. I have written about the ugliness of dogfish here and have written about cooking them here. Check it out if you get a moment.
